What Happens Between the Plane and the Altar

There’s one question almost every couple planning a wedding in Italy asks me before anything else. Before the flowers, before the menu, sometimes before the venue itself. How are our guests going to get there from the airport?

I understand the fear behind it completely. You’re asking people you love to cross the world for your day, and the last thing you want is for them to land exhausted and then face another long, confusing journey to reach you.

So let me take that fear off the table. Italy, for all its chaos, is remarkably well organised when it comes to airports. Every venue we propose, with the single exception of the Amalfi Coast, sits about an hour from the nearest international airport. Your guests don’t land and then disappear into a half-day odyssey. They land, and they’re nearly there.

But the distance is the easy part. The real work is everything between the airport and the moment your guest sits down, relaxed, with a drink in their hand. The transfers from the airport to the hotels, which we handle. The timing, so that people arriving on different flights from different countries don’t wait around for hours or turn up to a locked door.

And the quiet coordination that means a guest who’s never set foot in Italy, doesn’t speak the language and lands at ten at night still ends up exactly where they’re meant to be, without ever wondering how.

This is why we never choose a place just because it’s beautiful. We choose the place, and then we build the whole invisible machine that gets everyone to it. So on the day, the only thing your guests remember about the journey is that there wasn’t one to remember.

You’ll watch them arrive one after another, from different flights and different time zones, and not one of them will tell you about the drive. They’ll tell you about the view.
